At Dave’s Transport & Rentals Ltd we ensure that every job is conducted with the highest level of safety.  The transport industry is a HIGH RISK industry which demands safe work operations.

DTRL is committed to the Health & Safety of our employees, customers, contractors and the public who may be affected by our operations on a daily basis.

MANAGEMENT’S COMMITMENT
  • Supply a safe and efficient service to our customers. A service that will not in any way cause harm to people, equipment, property and the environment.
  • To comply with our customer’s safety management system, rules and regulations where applicable and on other job sites where services are provided for the customer.
  • To ensure operations personnel are trained and certified and that proper HS&E practices and record keeping are adhered to.
  • To equip all field personnel with the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for the job.
  • To ensure all vehicles and equipment have passed applicable inspection standards and maintained in accordance with company maintenance schedules.
  • Property insurance – all vehicles will be insured for transport operations.
  • Promote safety awareness in all areas of operations. Company personnel will be responsible for their personal safety and the safety of the people around or working with them. All personnel on-site or off-site are required to execute their duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Provide a safe working environment. Minimize the risk of causing injury to persons, damage to property or delays in providing services to our customers.
  • The use of drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited. All operations personnel are subject to periodic drug screening as determined by management.

OUR HSE GUIDELINES

We understand our critical role in providing HSE leadership.  Here are several MUST HAVE’s we adopt:

  • Management implements HSEM policies, safe work procedures and fosters a culture of safety awareness through continuous training.
  • Personnel understand and comply with company’s HSEM System and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Personnel Use the approved and specified protective equipment for the job.
  • Personnel are properly inducted /trained to comply with Site-specific Safety rules.
  • Personnel are trained, certified and are competent to operate equipment.
  • Equipment is suitable for the job at hand, certified and inspected.

Driving is a high-risk job and it is Key to our operations.  We operate Our Vehicles & Equipment when:

  • We ensure it can safely do the job i.e. it is a suitable vehicle and/or piece of equipment for the job at hand.
  • We keep equipment inspection dates and ensure equipment is certified.
  • We undergo pre-job inspections to check proper working order before every job.
  • Practice Defensive Driving
  • We comply with local road traffic laws and regulations
  • Wear seatbelts
  • Utilize Journey Management tools
  • Do NOT use handheld mobile devices while driving

DRIVERS MUST be:

  • Medically fit to operate the vehicle/equipment
  • Qualified and confirmed as trained and competent.

We will only carry out Lifting operations when:

  • The lift is properly planned and assessed with the lift method and equipment approved and determined by a competent person;
  • A Risk Assessment has been done;
  • The potential for falling objects and the extent of the exclusion zone has been correctly identified and risks mitigated;
  • Lifting equipment is certified for use and is subjected to the correct inspections;
  • Operators of lifting devices are confirmed as competent and certified to use the equipment;
  • Communication methods are agreed and tested;
  • Loads are rigged by competent and certified personnel;

To keep Safety high on our agenda, we welcome and encourage interventions from all employees.  How?

  • Stopping unsafe work and seeking advice.
  • Constructively challenging any unsafe conditions or behavior immediately;
  • Promptly reporting all incidents, including all near misses;
  • Accepting intervention and challenge without being defensive;
  • Contributing to team and client discussions;
  • Ensuing that employees have the competency to complete the job
  • Working in pairs to ensure the wellbeing of the other;
  • Promoting a culture of recognition.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

Dave’s Transport & Rentals Ltd. is committed to preserving the environment by integrating the consideration of environmental concerns and impacts into all of our decision making activities and will minimize the impact of its activities on the environment by managing its waste safely, preventing pollution of the environment, and harm to humans, flora and fauna.

Dave’s Transport & Rentals Ltd. shall comply with Environmental Management Act 2000 and shall commit to conducting activities in accordance with the highest standards of corporate best practice by adhering to the following:

 

  • Promote environmental awareness among our employees and encourage them to work in an environmentally responsible manner;
  • Train, educate and inform our employees about environmental issues that may affect their work;
  •  Reduce waste through re-use and recycling and by purchasing recycled, recyclable or re-furbished products and materials where these alternatives are available, economical and suitable;
  • Promote efficient use of materials and resources throughout our facility including water, electricity, raw materials and other resources, particularly those that are non-renewable;
  •  Avoid unnecessary use of hazardous materials and products, seek substitutions when feasible, and take all reasonable steps to protect human health and the environment when such materials must be used, stored and disposed of;
  • Develop and maintain appropriate emergency and spill response programmes.

JOURNEY MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

At Dave’s Transport & Rentals Ltd we offer prescribed Journey Management Solutions.  Journey Management is typically a set process that you follow for planning and undertaking road transport journeys in compliance with HSE requirements, with the goal of arriving safely.

 

At DTRL we utilize a Journey management plan for these main reasons;
  • ensure the driver/banksman, vehicle, and load are safe.
  • to encourage compliance with speeds, approved routes and rest intervals if needed.
  • to avoid where possible and if not, better control the risks associated with night driving.
  •  to improve Operational Efficiency for our Clients
Drivers MUST:
  • Confirm if a Journey Management Plan is required before starting the journey
  • Discuss the Journey Management Plan with the authorized Journey Manager and understand it before starting the journey.
  • Comply with the duty, driving and rest hours specified in the Journey Management Plan.
  • Follow the routes specified in the Journey Management Plan.
  • Always tell the authorized Journey Manager immediately if changes occur.
